Rebecca Trescher
“May we simply declare that no one has ever composed for jazz the way Rebecca Trescher does?”
– Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
Born in Tübingen in 1986, Rebecca Trescher is a composer, clarinetist, and bandleader based in Nuremberg and Berlin. Known for her boundless curiosity and her passion for blending jazz with contemporary symphonic music, she has earned an outstanding reputation on both the German and international jazz scenes. Her compositions are deeply inspired by nature—at once grounded and ethereal, intimate yet expansive.
Trescher is a regular guest at renowned festivals. Her performances are frequently recorded and broadcast by Bavarian Radio and Arte. She appears internationally with the Rebecca Trescher Tentet and the Rebecca Trescher Quartet, as well as in solo performances and in a duo with Greek guitarist Giorgos Tabakis.
Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and scholarships, including a 2014 scholarship from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, the City of Nuremberg’s Cultural Promotion Prize in 2015, an Artist Residency at Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop, the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize in 2017, the Wolfram von Eschenbach Prize in 2021, and the German Jazz Prize 2022 in the category “Composition of the Year.” In the same year, she was voted “Rising Star – Clarinet” in DownBeat magazine’s International Critics Poll.
In November 2025, Trescher will release her ninth album, Changing Perspectives, a co-production with Deutschlandfunk in Cologne. Her Tentet album Character Pieces was also selected for the Bandcamp “Best Jazz Albums of 2024” longlist.
