Tenon Height

PLEASE NOTE: Some clarinets have an upper tenon that is taller than standard. If your upper tenon is taller than 18.5 mm, then the Titanium Barrel will not seat fully down to the bottom of the tenon, and there will be a small gap between the bottom of the barrel and the top of the body of the clarinet. In this instance, we will include with your purchase a rubber o-ring that is intended to slide on to the tenon and fill in this gap between body and barrel. This ring will consume 2 mm of space, so you will consequently want to order a barrel that is 2 mm shorter in length. Indicate your tenon height:

    Not being an “equipment guy,” I normally wouldn’t have purchased this barrel, but when Silverstein offered the 14-day trial I decided to give it a try. I play on a Buffet Vintage Bb and an R-13 A, both with really fine barrels. I use a Jim Pyne “Williamson” mouthpiece. The change in my sound was obvious to everyone that I played for. It immediately produced a bigger sound with better focus and evenness across the registers. As impossible as it may seem, the descriptions of what it does on their webpage proved to be true. I found the part about “securing the sound without distortion or degradation” regardless of the dynamic particularly impressive. And, as claimed, the upper register is more stable than with any of my other barrels. I have played in the orchestras and been a recitalist for over 30 years. This is the first time in my career that a barrel has had such an impact on my playing. And, no, I don’t work for these folks and, yes, I paid full price for the barrel. Knowing how it improves everything about my setup, I would be willing to pay twice as much.
