Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tim Lin is a rising jazz star whose progressive sound draws from his synthesis of the jazz tradition. Upon his discovery of John Coltrane’s masterpiece, “A Love Supreme”, Tim was drawn into the wonders of the jazz idiom at a young age. During his junior year in high school, Tim was mentored by acclaimed bay area saxophonist and educator, Dann Zinn, who instilled in him a craftsman-like mentality of hard work and dedication. Tim was chosen out of a select pool of high school students to be a member of the San Jose Youth Jazz All Star Band. Soon after, Tim found himself in Los Angeles followed by a brief stint in New York City with his passion and desire to learn and play jazz at the highest level. In the spring of 2015, Tim graduated from USC Thornton School of Music where he received a scholarship to study with the world-renowned jazz recording artist, Bob Sheppard. During his college years, Tim was a member of the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra directed by Bob Mintzer in addition to the USC Honors Combo directed by Jason Goldman.
At the age of 23, Tim has already had professional appearances with jazz luminaries such as Kenny Burrell, Tootie Heath, Russell Ferrante, among many others. Tim has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, Blue Whale, Catalina Bar and Grill, Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, Fillmore Jazz Festival, and internationally in Taiwan.
