Guillermo Alberto Marín Rodríguez
Guillermo Alberto Marin was born in Chinchiná (Caldas-Colombia). He began his musical studies with his father, when he was 7 years old. He was a member of the Departmental program of wind bands in Caldas (Chinchiná – Colombia 1993 to 1998). From 1999 to 2006, Marín continued his musical studies at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where he received his Bachelor Degree with honors (clarinettist with conducting emphasis). In 2012 he received his Master of Music Degree With “Mención Sobresaliente” at the Simón Bolívar University In Caracas (Venezuela) under the orientation of professor Luis Rossi.
Marín has been soloist with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Orquesta Filarmónica del Valle, Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad Guayana, Banda Sinfónica Juvenil Simón Bolívar, Banda Sinfónica Juvenil de Cundinamarca, Banda de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Banda Municipal de Manizales, Banda Sinfónica de Pereira, Orquesta Sinfónica de Caldas, Orquesta Sinfónica de Ciudad Guayana (Venezuela), Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Honduras,Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Panamá, Filarmónica del Valle (Colombia), Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) and he has been as invited musician at the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, as well as the Orquesta de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolívar (Caracas-Venezuela), Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín (Colombia), Orquesta Filarmónica de Saltillo (México) and Orquesta Sinfónica de Minerías (México).
Marín has won numerous prizes in Colombia including the First National Clarinet Competition Philippe Berrod (by the Selmer Paris Company’s sponsor) in 2006, 2nd place “Jean Francaix Clarinet concerto competition” in Caracas (Venezuela) 2009. He was “Clarinettist of the year 2009” selected by CLARIPERU, won numerous prizes in Colombia Playing Traditional Colombian Music, he received the Hildegard Behrens Young Artist 2010, Orden Flor del Café and he was honoured by The Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) “YOA Outstanding Leader 2016”.
Marín has three recordings: “Jóvenes Talentos de la Música” (2004), “Música de Colombia” (2006) with ‘Ensamble del café (Clarinet Quartet) and “El Vuelo del Albatros” (2014) with ALBATROS Trío.
His teachers include Alonso Marín (his father), Jorge Mario Raigoza, Robert de Gennaro, Valdemar Rodríguez, Jorge Montilla and Luis Rossi. He has received masterclasses with Jonathan Cohler, Kalman Berkes, Michel Arrignon, Antonio Saiote, Paulo Sergio Santos, Joaquín Valdepeñas, Edgar Pronio, Javier Asdrúbal Vinasco, Egveny Petrov, Walter Seyfarth, Charles Neidich, Thomas Friedly, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Philippe Berrod, Michael Webster, Mariano Rey, and Carlos Céspedes.
Currently, Guillermo is clarinet Teacher at Caldas University (Manizales-Colombia), Artistic director of Robert De Gennaro Clarinet Meeting, Festival Nacional de Música Alonso Marín, member of the Colombian Clarinet Quartet, the Colombian Wind Quintet, Clarmónico Duet (Clarinet and guitar), and Albatros Trío (Traditional Colombian Music).
