Johan van der Linden: Saxophonist, Professor, and Composer

Johan van der Linden graduated in 1983 at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He studied with Ed Boogaard and participated in masterclasses with Iwan Roth, Daniel Defayet, Frederick Hemke and Francois Daneels.

Between 1982 and 1990 Johan was appointed Saxophonist at the Dutch Royal Military Band in The Hague. In 1982 he founded, together with his colleagues André Arends, Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk, the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. This Saxophone Quartet has become one of the leading chamber music ensembles in the world.

Besides his work as a professor Saxophone at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle and the Conservatory of Utrecht (HKU), Johan works as a freelance saxophonist at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hague Philharmonic and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He also is a member of the Dutch Wind Ensemble (www.nbe.nl) and gives masterclasses all around the world.
