David Blumberg

David Blumberg is among the Clarinet Faculty of the Philadelphia International Music Festival featuring members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and teaching alongside Principal Clarinetist, and Curtis/Juilliard Clarinet Faculty Member Ricardo Morales. Mr Blumberg is Principal Clarinetist of the Seabrook Opera, and 1st Clarinetist in the National Band WindWorks of Washington, D.C. which is composed of top players in the big 4 Washington, D.C. Service Bands. December 2014 he toured to China where he performed with members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic in a Music Festival for of a crowd of over 10,000. He has performed and given clinics both online with Skype, as well as in the US, Europe, and Asia.

He has had quite an active, and diverse musical experience as a Performer, Instructor, Reed Clinician, and as a Music Producer. His students have won numerous competitions including 1st Runner up of the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition (His Clarinet Student Edward Sundra won 1st Runner up at the 2012 International Clarinet Association Orchestral Audition Competition and was the youngest finalist by 8 years), 1st Prize Wind Category in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Interlochen Michigan Music Festival Concerto Competition, the Matinee Music Society Competition (Curtis Institute), and the U.S. Air Force Band competition. He taught the only Wind Finalist in the 1991, and 1992 Philadelphia Orchestra Student Soloist Competition. His students have been featured on WFLN-FM Philadelphia Classical Radio in the “Live from the Settlement School” Broadcasts. In 1987 one of his Saxophone students was selected to perform and tour with the Duke Ellington All Star Jazz Band conducted by Wynton Marsalis. He has taught numerous 1st Chair Pennsylvania All State Band Students on both Clarinet and Saxophone including the 1st Chair All State Pennsylvania for Clarinet, and Alto Saxophone in the past 5 years. A Clarinet Student of his in 2012 Won 2nd Prize in the International Clarinet Association Orchestral Audition Competition. In 1992 at age 28, he was the youngest teacher ever to have a student as a Winner in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition, and his student was the only High School Student admitted to the Competition.

He studied with Anthony Gigliotti for 7 years, and was one of the 2 American Clarinetist’s selected to participate in the 1988 Robert Marcellus Scotia Music Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He gave the Philadelphia Premiere of the T.C. David Trio #1 for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano in 1985 with Asst. Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra Nancy Bean. He was the Principal Clarinetist for the 1987 Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestral Seminar.

 Mr. Blumberg is a Performing Artist/Clinician for the D’Addario Reserve Classic Reed,  Backun Winds, Silverstein Ligatures.
